Islamabad introduces eco-friendly electric buses to enhance public transportation, reduce pollution, and offer sustainable commuting options.

Islamabad has taken a significant step towards promoting eco-friendly public transportation with the launch of its new fleet of electric buses. These light blue buses, which are environmentally friendly, have recently completed a successful trial phase and are now fully operational. The Chief Commissioner of Islamabad has announced that these electric buses are now available for the residents of the city.

The new electric bus service in Islamabad complements the existing Green Line and Blue Line bus services managed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA). These electric buses are currently operating on feeder route number four, connecting PIMS Hospital to Quaid-e-Azam University, with a bus frequency of one every 10 minutes.

Key stops along this route include Radio Colony, Satara Market, Melody, Aabpara, NADRA Chowk, and Serena Hotel. Initially, passengers were not allowed to board the buses during the trial period, but the service is now fully operational. To encourage ridership, the first few days of travel are free, with a nominal fare of Rs 50 set to be implemented from July 1st.

In addition to the current route, another feeder route has been introduced to cater to the university area, connecting Karachi Company, G-10, and G-11 Markazs, ending at NUST University. This initiative is particularly beneficial for students, senior citizens, and women, providing them with a convenient and environmentally friendly mode of transportation for their daily commutes.

The electric buses, procured from China, are part of a larger delivery of 160 buses, with 30 already operational in Islamabad. This move is expected to contribute to reducing pollution and noise levels in the city while offering a more sustainable commuting option for residents.

Islamabad's transportation network now includes 14 feeder routes, with plans to activate the remaining routes gradually. The introduction of electric buses signifies a positive step towards a greener and more efficient public transportation system in the city.

The introduction of electric buses in Islamabad marks a significant milestone in the city's efforts towards sustainable and eco-friendly public transportation. With the aim of reducing pollution and providing a more efficient commuting option, these electric buses not only benefit the environment but also offer a convenient mode of transport for residents. This initiative sets a positive example for other cities to follow in promoting greener transportation solutions.
