Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Advisor announced a policy promoting book reuse in schools, saving Rs 4 billion. Ban on buying/selling textbooks enforced, with incentives for maintaining books. Efforts praised for proactive approach towards educational resource preservation.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Advisor Muzamil Aslam announced a significant cost-saving measure in the education sector on Tuesday. He stated that the implementation of a policy promoting the reuse of books in schools would result in savings of Rs 4 billion. This decision was made during a meeting of the Elementary and Secondary Education along with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Textbook Board.

As per the advisor, the printing of 34 million books has been completed for the current year, a notable decrease from the 56.3 million books printed last year. To enforce the book reuse policy, a ban has been placed on the buying and selling of both new and old textbooks. Additionally, funds will be allocated promptly to the Textbook Board for timely printing of educational materials.

In a forward-looking move, starting from the next academic year, incentives will be provided to school teachers and students for maintaining books in good condition. This initiative aims to instill a sense of responsibility towards preserving educational resources.

The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary Abdullah Ikram and Chairman of the Textbook Board, Syed Saqlain Gilani. Advisor Muzamil Aslam commended the efforts of the Elementary and Secondary Education department and the Textbook Board for their proactive approach towards promoting book reuse.
