The KP Food Authority launches a campaign to ensure food safety and hygiene in hospital canteens across the province, taking strict actions against violators to uphold public health standards.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Food Authority recently initiated a two-day special campaign targeting canteens in major hospitals across the province. The campaign aimed to ensure food safety and hygiene standards in hospital canteens. On the first day of the campaign, inspections were carried out in 39 district headquarters hospitals as well as public and private hospitals in various divisions including Peshawar, Mardan, Malakand, Hazara, Kohat, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan.

During the inspections, a total of 27 canteens were checked, with actions taken against sellers found violating hygiene regulations. Complaints from citizens regarding the quality of food items such as chickpeas, keema, pai, and kababs led to immediate actions by the Food Authority officials. Notably, a canteen at Lady Reading Hospital in poor sanitation conditions was sealed, and fines were imposed on violators along with improvement notices issued on the spot.

Director General of the Food Authority, Wasif Saeed, emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards compromising public health safety. Minister of Food, KP Zahir Shah Roro, instructed safety teams to conduct regular checks on canteens in schools and hospitals to uphold hygiene standards. The campaign underscores the commitment of KP Food Authority to ensure safe and healthy food practices in healthcare facilities across the province.
