The coastal city of Al-Qunfudah in Saudi Arabia is currently hosting its 13th season of the mango festival. Organized by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture’s branch in the Makkah region, this event aims to showcase the diverse varieties of mangoes grown locally, including Tommy Atkins, Sensation, and Langra. Running for five days, the festival serves as a platform to promote agricultural products, support local farmers in marketing their produce, and contribute to the growth of the Kingdom’s agricultural sector.

Al-Qunfudah is home to over 3,000 farmers who collectively own nearly half a million mango trees, producing more than 45,000 tons of mangoes annually. The festival has attracted notable figures such as Makkah Region Gov. Prince Khalid Al-Faisal and Majid Al-Khalif, the director general of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture’s branch in the Makkah region. Al-Khalif highlighted the festival's importance as a valuable marketing opportunity for consumers seeking high-quality agricultural products.

Guests at the festival can enjoy a variety of activities, including a heritage corner, games, prizes, and educational programs tailored for farmers. Mango cultivation has a long history in Saudi Arabia, with production typically starting in March and harvesting beginning in May, lasting for three months. Last year, the country produced 88,600 tons of mangoes annually, with Al-Qunfudah contributing slightly over half of the national output. Other regions like Jazan’s Sabya, Abu Arish, Al-Darb, Samtah, and Baish governorates also cultivate this seasonal fruit.
