Sindh Agriculture Minister Muhammad Bux Mahar has unveiled a new initiative to offer interest-free loans to students at Sindh Agricultural University, Tandojam. The aim is to empower young individuals to kickstart their agricultural ventures and contribute to the farming sector's growth in the region.

Minister Mahar highlighted the significance of supporting the youth in establishing their agricultural businesses. He also stressed the importance of introducing innovative wheat, rice, and sugarcane crop varieties to benefit local farmers.

In response to the challenges posed by climate change on agriculture, Mahar emphasized the need for increased budget allocation towards enhancing the capacity and training of agriculture officers. He directed the Research Wing to prioritize improving mangoes, dates, and cotton production and quality.

The Research Wing has already achieved notable progress in introducing diverse crop varieties, such as wheat, cotton, rice, sugarcane, and vegetables. Additionally, the Institute of Food and Science Technology has trained over 300 women in agricultural product processing, enabling them to pursue small-scale businesses from their homes.

During a meeting attended by key officials, including Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri, the Vice Chancellor of Agriculture University Tando Jam, and research officers, a strong commitment was reaffirmed to advance agricultural research and development in Sindh.

The initiatives announced by Minister Mahar demonstrate a proactive approach towards nurturing the next generation of agricultural leaders and enhancing the productivity and sustainability of farming practices in Sindh. By empowering students and investing in research and training, the province is poised to witness significant growth and innovation in its agricultural sector.
