Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approves the establishment of a Provincial Enforcement Authority to enhance law enforcement and compliance with regulations at the grassroots level.

In a significant development, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has given the green light for the establishment of a Provincial Enforcement Authority in the province. This decision came following a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, where she was briefed on the plans to set up enforcement authorities at the district and tehsil levels.

Maryam Nawaz has not only approved the establishment of the Provincial Enforcement Authority in Punjab but has also directed the immediate initiation of the legislative process required for its formation. The meeting also saw the decision to make amendments to 11 laws, rules, and ordinances to facilitate the establishment of the enforcement authority.

Under the proposed plan, enforcement authorities will be set up in every district and tehsil of Punjab. The Provincial Enforcement Authority will be overseen by the chief secretary, with the appointment of a Director General (DG). At the district level, a Deputy Commissioner (DC) will head the enforcement authority, while at the tehsil level, an Assistant Commissioner (AC) will lead the enforcement efforts.

These enforcement authorities will be tasked with various responsibilities, including taking action against price control violations, encroachment of government land, and hoarding. Additionally, a police station and special force will be established at the tehsil level under the supervision of the Tehsil Enforcement Unit, which will comprise unit in charge, investigation officers, enforcement officers, and constables.

Not only will the Tehsil Enforcement Unit enforce the law, but it will also have the authority to file cases, conduct investigations, and make arrests. Offices for both the Provincial Enforcement Authority and District Enforcement Authority will be set up to ensure effective monitoring of the enforcement activities.

The establishment of the Provincial Enforcement Authority in Punjab marks a significant step towards enhancing law enforcement and ensuring compliance with regulations at the grassroots level. With a clear structure in place and designated authorities at the district and tehsil levels, the enforcement efforts are expected to be more streamlined and effective in addressing various issues such as price control violations and encroachments.
