The Ministry of Public Works in Afghanistan is set to resume the reconstruction of the Salang Pass, funded by toll taxes. Drivers express concerns over poor road conditions, emphasizing the need for urgent reconstruction to improve road safety and transportation needs.

The Ministry of Public Works has announced that the reconstruction of the Salang Pass in Afghanistan is set to resume soon, pending improved weather conditions. Funding for the project has been sourced from toll taxes collected from vehicles using the route, in accordance with the directives of the Islamic Emirate's leadership.

Several private companies, previously contracted for the project, will be responsible for the reconstruction. Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, the Ministry's spokesperson, confirmed that work on the Salang highway, divided into three parts, will restart once weather conditions allow, with finances secured through toll tax revenues.

The toll tax rates for vehicles using the southern Salang route range from 800 to 2,600 Afs. However, the total amount collected so far has not been disclosed by the Ministry. Drivers have expressed concerns over the poor road conditions, with one freight vehicle operator lamenting the impact on perishable goods due to road deterioration.

Drivers and passengers alike are calling for urgent and comprehensive reconstruction of the highway, citing long travel times and challenging road conditions. The Ministry reported the completion of concrete work in the Salang tunnel and Gallery 16 last year, with plans to rebuild 80 kilometers of the highway through contracted companies.

In conclusion, the Ministry's efforts to resume the reconstruction of the Salang Pass highlight the importance of infrastructure development in Afghanistan, addressing critical transportation needs and improving road safety for all users.
