The Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training introduces the Federal Foundational Learning Policy 2024 to enhance education in Pakistan, focusing on improving foundational learning skills and addressing challenges in the education sector.

The Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training (MoFEPT) has taken a significant step towards enhancing education in Pakistan with the introduction of the Federal Foundational Learning Policy 2024. This policy aims to ensure that all children in federal schools acquire foundational learning skills by the year 2030. The initiative was officially launched by Federal Secretary Mr. Mohyuddin Wani in the presence of key stakeholders, including university vice-chancellors, parliamentarians, and education organizations in Pakistan. The event was hosted by Ms. Feryal Ali Gauhar, a well-known author and social activist.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared an education emergency on May 8, 2024, to address the critical challenges faced by the education sector. With approximately 26.2 million out-of-school children in the country, the government aims to improve learning outcomes, especially in basic literacy and numeracy skills, which many children currently struggle with.

The Federal Foundational Learning Policy 2024 will be implemented in government schools, private schools, non-formal education centers, and madaris across Islamabad Capital Territory, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Key departments such as the Federal Directorate of Education and the School Education Departments of Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir will oversee the policy's implementation.

The Pakistan Foundational Learning Hub under MoFEPT will play a crucial role in enhancing early grade literacy and numeracy nationwide. This policy is part of a broader national effort to improve basic reading and numeracy skills among Pakistani children, with each province developing its own foundational learning policies.

During the policy launch, the eight pillars of the Federal Foundational Learning Policy 2024 were highlighted, stressing the importance of effective implementation. Speakers emphasized the need to enhance teacher content knowledge, improve learning quality in schools, and promote a reading culture to address the learning crisis and reduce the number of out-of-school children.

The Federal Foundational Learning Policy 2024 represents a crucial step towards transforming the education landscape in Pakistan. By focusing on foundational learning skills and emphasizing effective implementation strategies, this policy aims to equip all children with the necessary tools for academic success. With the government's commitment to addressing the challenges in the education sector, there is hope for a brighter future for Pakistani students.
