Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq of Islamabad accepts AJK demands, reducing electricity and flour prices to alleviate public burden. Future plans include relief measures and combating wheat smuggling.

The Prime Minister of Islamabad, Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq, recently announced that the government has accepted the demands presented by the Jammu Kashmir Awami Action Committee (JAAC), despite facing financial constraints. This decision comes in response to the pressing need for affordable essentials, with reductions in electricity and flour prices being key outcomes of the agreement.

PM Shehbaz has committed full support to address the challenges faced by the people of AJK within a strict 24-hour timeline, involving a significant cost to the national exchequer amounting to over Rs23 billion. Notably, the price of wheat flour has been slashed by Rs 1100 per 40 kg bag, and lower electricity rates have been approved as part of the government's efforts to alleviate the burden on the public.

Emphasizing the government's respect for the public mandate in Azad Kashmir, the Prime Minister highlighted the commitment to resolving grievances without suppressing peaceful protests. He also expressed gratitude towards Pakistan's establishment for their assistance in facilitating these changes.

Looking ahead, Anwar ul Haq outlined the government's future plans for additional relief measures following the completion of a hydroelectric project. He praised the ongoing efforts to combat wheat smuggling and theft, ensuring that federal government subsidies effectively reach the people of Azad Kashmir.

The government's proactive steps to lower prices and provide financial aid underscore a strong dedication to meeting the needs of the AJK population. The Prime Minister acknowledged the unwavering support of the political and military leadership and confirmed that the announced measures will be promptly implemented, forming part of the upcoming budget for FY2024-25.
