The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and the Federal Board of Revenue debunked a viral claim about tax exemptions on imported mobile phones, clarifying the existing tax structure.

Recently, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Federal Board of Revenue of Pakistan (FBR) have debunked a viral social media claim suggesting the removal of taxes on imported mobile phones. Both PTA and FBR officials have clarified that no such decision has been made.

PTA spokesperson Malahat Obaid addressed the misinformation, highlighting that while a tax-free registration facility for mobile phones was introduced last year for Pakistanis living abroad, the taxes on imported phones remain applicable. She emphasized that there have been no new directives from the FBR regarding tax exemptions on phone registrations.

Similarly, FBR spokesperson Bakhtiar Muhammad reiterated that the tax structure for imported phones remains unchanged, with no modifications to the existing regulations. This clarification aims to dispel any confusion stemming from the viral social media post.
