Recent windstorm in Punjab leads to casualties. PDMA and CM Punjab take immediate actions. NDMA alerts K-P and G-B on potential GLOF threats. Precautionary measures and community cooperation emphasized for disaster management.

A recent windstorm and lightning strikes in Punjab have tragically led to the loss of six lives and injuries to five individuals. The affected areas include Sialkot and Rawalpindi, as reported by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). In response, the PDMA has taken swift action by directing deputy commissioners to ensure proper medical care for the injured and providing financial assistance to the families of the deceased. Stressing the importance of collaboration during natural disasters, the PDMA has urged all organizations, including rescue services, to remain vigilant.

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has issued strict directives to prevent any negligence in managing such crises. The public is advised to stay indoors during severe weather conditions, particularly thunderstorms, and avoid unnecessary travel. Citizens are encouraged to contact the emergency helpline at 1129 in case of any urgent situations.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has alerted the disaster management authorities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) following the Pakistan Meteorological Department's warning of potential Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) in those regions. The NDMA has instructed authorities to maintain close communication with relevant departments and prepare for potential floods, landslides, and strong winds from May 21 to 27.

Precautionary measures include deploying emergency personnel and equipment in advance, informing local communities about high-risk areas, and conducting mock drills for prompt evacuation during emergencies. The primary goal is to protect lives and property in vulnerable regions.

As natural disasters continue to pose threats to communities, proactive measures and effective coordination among authorities are crucial for minimizing risks and ensuring swift responses. By staying informed, following safety guidelines, and cooperating with emergency services, individuals can contribute to a safer environment for all.
