Former AJK Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas granted bail in Islamabad over alleged diplomatic passport misuse. Legal complexities emphasize the importance of upholding the law and ensuring accountability.

Former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, was recently granted bail by a district and sessions court in Islamabad. The case revolved around the alleged misuse of a diplomatic passport, as Ilyas had utilized it for travel to Saudi Arabia post his tenure. Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah oversaw the proceedings and approved Ilyas's release upon the submission of a Rs0.1 million bond.

Ilyas's legal representative argued that the maximum penalty for the offense was three years and emphasized that the passport had been returned, which justified the bail request. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) presented relevant case records during the court session. Despite the bail being granted, the FIA prosecutor expressed opposition to the decision.

Earlier, Ilyas had been taken into custody on May 20 by Islamabad Police in connection with a family property dispute. Reports suggested that he was detained over allegations of unlawfully seizing family property and being linked to a shooting incident. Furthermore, Ilyas faced accusations of trying to take control of Centaurus Mall's central offices and important documents.

The granting of bail to Sardar Tanveer Ilyas in the passport misuse case marks a significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings. While the case continues to unfold, the complexities surrounding Ilyas's legal entanglements highlight the importance of upholding the law and ensuring accountability at all levels.
