Food wastage in Pakistan has become a pressing issue, with Vice Chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Dr. Fateh Mari highlighting its detrimental impact on food security and safety. Dr. Mari stressed the urgent need for societal reform and awareness to combat food wastage, particularly in households, hotels, and wedding venues.

During the 'Say No to Food Waste' training program's concluding ceremony, Dr. Mari revealed that 17% of food in the country is wasted, with a 10% reduction potentially resolving wheat scarcity. FAO representative Anne-Klervi Cherrière underscored FAO's efforts in Pakistan, collaborating with institutions like SAU to enhance agriculture and food security.

IFST Director Dr. Aijaz Hussain Soomro disclosed that Pakistan wastes around 36 million tons of food annually, accounting for nearly 40% of total production, attributing this to a lack of awareness. Dr. Tahseen Fatima highlighted the program's success in raising awareness and promoting responsibility among 70 participating students towards food management.

Dean Dr. Inayatullah Rajpar, Dean Dr. Manzoor Ali Abro, and Dr. Muhammad Ismail Khumbhar were also present at the event, where certificates were awarded to students and organizers, emphasizing the importance of addressing food wastage for a sustainable future.
