In a significant development, Tariq Mehmood, the Senior Vice Chairman of the Oil Marketing Association of Pakistan (OMAP), has been appointed as the convener of Customs Intelligence by the Regional Chairman Punjab of the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This appointment is a notable honor and is expected to play a crucial role in combating the rampant smuggling of goods that has been adversely affecting government revenues.

The appointment of Tariq Mehmood comes at a time when the smuggling of goods, including petroleum products, has been causing substantial losses to the government in terms of revenue from petroleum levy, income tax, and withholding taxes.
