Chaudhry Parvez Elahi's Residence Designated as Sub-Jail by Islamabad High Court

The Islamabad High Court has issued a directive to the interior secretary regarding an application seeking to designate Chaudhry Parvez Elahi's residence as a sub-jail and relocate him there. This decision comes in response to a petition filed by Mr Elahi's spouse, citing health concerns as the reason for his potential confinement at home. Despite a medical board's recommendation to keep Mr Elahi in Rawalpindi prison due to health issues, the court highlighted his status as an under-trial prisoner and stressed his right to life.

Within 15 days, the interior secretary has been instructed to review the application for house arrest. Additionally, the Rawalpindi jail superintendent has been directed to ensure that Mr Elahi receives necessary medical check-ups from PIMS Hospital.
