Mayor Zubair Ali of the Capital Metropolitan Government in Peshawar expresses concerns over attempts to weaken the local government system in KP. He demands accountability, unity among LG representatives, and warns of potential protests if issues persist.

The Mayor of the Capital Metropolitan Government in Peshawar, Zubair Ali, has raised concerns over the alleged attempts by the KP government to weaken the local government (LG) system in the province. Mayor Ali, along with other elected LG representatives, expressed disappointment during a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club. He issued a stern warning to those involved in sabotaging the LG system, emphasizing that they would face consequences within the Capital Metropolitan Government.

Mayor Zubair Ali specifically called for the removal of DG Metropolitan Wahidur Rehman and demanded an inquiry into his conduct. He cited personal animosities as a factor leading to the system's deterioration, affecting service delivery and causing hardships for the residents of the provincial capital. The mayor urged LG representatives to unite and address the challenges faced by the Capital Metropolitan Government.

Highlighting evidence of misconduct against the official, Mayor Ali criticized the lack of action taken despite assurances from Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. He also pointed out the discrepancy in the chief minister's approach towards provincial rights and powers delegated to LG representatives. The mayor suggested that the DG's actions had the backing of the provincial government, as evidenced by the absence of funds allocated to LG representatives in the past two years.

Mayor Zubair Ali warned that if the situation was not peacefully resolved, the DG would be barred from entering the Capital Metropolitan Government office. He emphasized the possibility of province-wide protests against those supporting the DG's activities. The mayor's call for unity among LG representatives and his efforts to safeguard the LG system underscore the importance of local governance in serving the community effectively.
