The recent transnational phase in Islamabad has come to a close with the appointment of Muhammad Ali Randawa as the new city chief. Randawa, a grade 20 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service, currently serving as Commissioner of Lahore Division, has been selected to take on the role of Chief Commissioner of Islamabad. This decision follows the requisition of his services by the Ministry of Interior last week, as outlined in an official notification from the Establishment.

In recent years, it has been customary to appoint a single officer to hold both the positions of Chief Commissioner of Islamabad and Chairman of the Capital Development Authority. However, the federal government is yet to confirm whether Randawa will assume both roles, as the details of this arrangement remain uncertain.

Prior to his new appointment, Muhammad Ali Randawa has held various significant positions. He previously worked in the Prime Minister’s office during the initial months of the Shehbaz Sharif-led PDM government. Subsequently, he joined the team of the current Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, during Naqvi's tenure as the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab. Randawa's professional experience also includes serving in Gilgit Baltistan, the Ministry of Federal Education and Training, and as the Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi.

In conclusion, the appointment of Muhammad Ali Randawa as the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad marks a significant development in the administrative landscape of the capital city. With his diverse experience and background in various governmental roles, Randawa's leadership is poised to bring a fresh perspective to the governance of Islamabad.
