Rana Sanaullah and PPP engage in discussions regarding the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, emphasizing inclusive decision-making and addressing economic challenges to prioritize citizens' welfare.

Rana Sanaullah, the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs and President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Punjab, has announced that the government is dedicated to considering the input of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) before finalizing the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25. Sanaullah stressed the significance of discussions within the parliament and on the sidelines concerning the current budget proposals.

Before the budget presentation for the upcoming fiscal year, the PPP, a former ally of the PML-N, initially opted to boycott the National Assembly session. However, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar successfully convinced some PPP lawmakers to attend, although only a few participated, indicating 'token attendance'.

PPP leaders expressed discontent over not being consulted on the budget proposals, underscoring their alliance with the government and questioning the lack of engagement. Sanaullah acknowledged the legitimacy of PPP's concerns and admitted to some deficiencies in consultation, ensuring that the budget remains open to suggestions.

The government's objective is to approve the budget before the end of June, preceding the commencement of the new fiscal year on July 1. With ambitious goals such as a substantial increase in tax revenue and a reduction in the fiscal deficit, the coalition government encounters obstacles due to its absence of a parliamentary majority.

PPP's Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani stressed the importance of upholding the agreements made during the government formation and advocated for budgetary measures to aid the underprivileged and address inflation.

The ongoing discussions between the government and the PPP regarding the budget for the upcoming fiscal year reflect the collaborative efforts to address economic challenges and prioritize the welfare of the citizens. As both parties navigate through differing perspectives, the commitment to inclusive decision-making and addressing concerns signals a step towards effective governance and accountability.
