The Sindh High Court issues a notice on protecting historical buildings in Shikarpur, emphasizing the government's responsibility in safeguarding cultural heritage landmarks.
The Sindh High Court has taken a strict stance on the protection of historical buildings in Shikarpur, particularly Budha Ashram, by issuing a contempt of court notice to the Secretary of the Culture, Tourism & Antiquities Department. This action came during a hearing of a petition filed to safeguard seven significant structures in the region. The court demanded detailed information on endowment funds from the past decade and allocations in the upcoming budget.
During the hearing presided over by Justice Salahuddin Panhwar, concerns were raised by the petitioner, Shahab Awastu, regarding the government's failure to ensure the preservation of these historical sites. Justice Panhwar expressed disappointment over the apparent negligence of officials and questioned the absence of the culture secretary. He emphasized that these buildings are under government custody and should not be accessed by unauthorized entities.
This development underscores the judiciary's commitment to upholding the protection of cultural heritage and holding accountable those responsible for its conservation. The court's intervention highlights the importance of safeguarding historical landmarks for future generations and ensuring their proper maintenance and upkeep.
