Karachi faced heavy rainfall prompting swift action from authorities to ensure safety and preparedness for future weather events.

Several areas of Karachi experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunder on Sunday, prompting the mobilization of traffic police to ensure road safety. The downpour affected various parts of the city, including Mauripur, North Karachi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Saddar, Soldier Bazaar, the airport, and Clifton. Surjani recorded the highest rainfall at 26mm, followed by Nazimabad at 21.2mm and Gulshan-e-Hadeed at 20mm.

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab confirmed that the city administration had taken necessary steps to address the rain, with the Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation deploying machinery and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation cleaning stormwater drains. The Sindh government issued a high alert for all municipalities and hospitals, emphasizing effective drainage and emergency preparedness.

Chief Secretary Syed Asif Hyder Shah instructed relevant authorities to stay vigilant, ensuring proper drainage and emergency response readiness. A rain emergency center was set up at the Sindh Building Control Authority, with staff working round the clock to manage any crises. The KWSC and K-Electric were directed to be on standby for emergencies, with dewatering pumps installed on key roads.

Despite the challenges, the KWSC ensured the deployment of suction machines and pumps across critical locations in Karachi. KE maintained stable electricity supply during the rain, suspending power to vulnerable areas temporarily. As the city braces for further rainfall, emergency measures remain in place to address any potential issues.

The recent heavy rainfall in Karachi has highlighted the importance of proactive measures to mitigate the impact of inclement weather. With coordinated efforts from various authorities and utility providers, the city aims to enhance its resilience against such natural events in the future.
