The Commissioner of Rawalpindi Division is ensuring preparations for the monsoon season, focusing on infrastructure, education, and environmental safety.

The Commissioner of Rawalpindi Division has issued directives to ensure all necessary arrangements are in place for the upcoming monsoon season. With a projected 30% increase in rainfall expected this year, the focus is on completing dredging and de-silting projects for Nullahs, particularly Nullah Lai, in a timely manner. To prevent environmental hazards and potential disasters, Section-144 will be strictly enforced, and pre-monsoon preparations are actively ongoing to minimize flooding risks.

Efforts are being coordinated by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to ensure the thorough cleaning of 11 main nullahs in Rawalpindi. Priority is given to enhancing the drainage system through drain cleaning and sewerage system upgrades. The Municipal Corporation has been assigned the task of maintaining clear drain banks to prevent blockages caused by encroachments.

Special attention is being paid to vulnerable areas like Rattaamral, Katarian, Tippu Road, Dhoke Naju, Gawalmandi, and Zia ul Haq Colony to address potential flood threats during the monsoon season. Collaboration among government departments, Rescue-1122, and WASA is emphasized for effective pre-monsoon measures. The health department is also gearing up to provide necessary medical services in case of emergencies.

Furthermore, the Rawalpindi Ring Road project is set to be completed by December, aligning with the Chief Minister's deadline. This comprehensive project includes initiatives like the construction of the Rawalpindi Ring Road and Dadocha Dam to tackle water scarcity issues. Divided into three phases, Phase-I is slated for completion by December 2024.

Various ongoing projects in Rawalpindi encompass the Lai Expressway, Kutchery Chowk, Safe City Project, water supply schemes, hospital renovations, and the introduction of a mobile health service project. Educational facilities are also being enhanced, with a specific focus on the Education Department's key programs and the establishment of Divisional Public Schools across all districts.

Special inclusive initiatives, such as providing classes for transgenders at Government Islamia Higher Secondary School No.1 Murree Road, underscore the commitment to diverse and accessible education. Additionally, the completion of 57 small dams in Rawalpindi division showcases efforts to improve water resource management in the region.

The proactive measures being taken in Rawalpindi Division ahead of the monsoon season demonstrate a strong commitment to public safety, infrastructure development, and inclusive community initiatives. By prioritizing environmental preparedness, infrastructure projects, and educational enhancements, the region is poised for sustainable growth and resilience in the face of natural challenges.
