Karachi faces a severe heatwave with record-breaking temperatures, prompting health precautions and anticipation for monsoon rains for relief.

Karachi, the bustling metropolis of Pakistan, recently encountered an unprecedented heatwave, marking its hottest night of July since 2021. The city sweltered under a nighttime temperature of 32°C, a staggering 4.1°C above the normal range. The Pakistan Meteorological Department sounded the alarm, noting a significant spike in temperatures compared to the previous year.

Despite the usual relief expected from sea breezes, Karachi is set to endure continued hot and humid conditions, with daytime temperatures forecasted to soar between 35°C to 37°C in the next 24 hours. The PMD projects that the average temperature for July will settle around 27.9°C, with weather analyst Jawad Memon predicting the return of sea breezes. This phenomenon could trigger the formation of sea clouds, potentially bringing a chance of drizzle to various areas during the night and morning in the days ahead.

As Karachi grapples with this intense heatwave, briefly interrupted by a recent spell of rain, health experts emphasize the importance of consuming homemade food and beverages to mitigate health risks associated with outside eateries. Boiling water before consumption is also advised as a precautionary measure. While rain is not anticipated in the city today, Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz anticipates the arrival of monsoon rains post-July 8, offering a glimmer of hope for relief from the scorching temperatures.

As Karachi battles the sweltering heat, it is crucial for residents to stay hydrated, seek shade, and follow health guidelines to stay safe during this challenging period. With the promise of monsoon rains on the horizon, there is hope for a respite from the relentless heatwave gripping the city.
