German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Visit China for Talks

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is set to embark on a three-day visit to China, starting this Saturday. The visit will include crucial talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang in Beijing on April 16. This trip marks Scholz's second visit to China since assuming office as chancellor.

During his visit, Scholz will also visit Chongqing and Shanghai, where he will engage with German businesses and deliver a speech at a university. The trip comes at a significant time, as Germany grapples with the need to diversify its trade relations and reduce its heavy dependence on China.

Scholz's first visit to China took place in November 2022, amidst growing discussions on the importance of rebalancing Germany's economic ties with the Asian powerhouse. The upcoming talks are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation, addressing trade imbalances, and exploring opportunities for mutual growth.
