Muslims at Haj Show Solidarity with Palestinians

Over 1.5 million Muslims recently converged at Mount Arafat for the annual Haj pilgrimage, a significant event in Islam. This sacred journey involves prayers for peace and reflection, with pilgrims donning white attire as they ascend the 70-meter hill where Prophet Muhammad delivered his final sermon.

Amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza, this year's Haj saw worshippers expressing solidarity with the affected Palestinians, despite cautions against engaging in political activities during the pilgrimage. Leaders like Iran's supreme leader advocated for supporting the Palestinians, while Saudi Arabia extended invitations to 2,000 Palestinians to participate in the Haj.

Despite facing challenges such as soaring temperatures reaching 43°C, pilgrims are reminded to stay hydrated and seek shade to prevent heat-related illnesses. The pilgrimage, a mandatory religious duty for financially capable Muslims, offers a unique opportunity for spiritual growth and communal worship.

Following the rituals at Mount Arafat, pilgrims will proceed to Muzdalifah for the symbolic stoning of the devil, marking another significant phase of the Haj. This pilgrimage not only holds religious importance but also contributes significantly to Saudi Arabia's economy through religious tourism.
