Ukraine drone attack causes casualties and damage in Russia

On May 17, 2024, a significant drone attack carried out by Ukraine on Russia has led to the annexation of Crimea and caused casualties and damage. This attack, the largest aerial offensive by Ukraine in recent weeks, occurred as Russian forces were gaining ground along the frontline.

The father sustained injuries, while the car's driver suffered shrapnel wounds to his hands. In another incident, a drone caused a fire at a gas station in the border village of Bessonovka. Furthermore, in Tuapse, two Ukrainian drones targeted an oil refinery, causing a significant fire that was eventually extinguished.

Additional fires broke out in Novorossiysk after a drone attack, with reports suggesting that an oil facility was the target. The port of Sevastopol in Crimea experienced a partial blackout due to debris from downed drones damaging an electrical substation. Despite these incidents, Ukraine has denied targeting civilians and has justified attacks on Russian energy facilities as legitimate military targets.

Meanwhile, Russian forces are advancing into Ukraine's northeast following a recent offensive. Nearly 9,000 civilians have been evacuated from the border area as Russia moves towards Vovchansk and nearby villages.
