Anjuman-e-Tajiran Rawalpindi Cantonment supports underground cabling project in Saddar Bazaar, but traders raise concerns over proposed walking street. Efforts to beautify the area continue amidst opposition from the business community.

The Anjuman-e-Tajiran Rawalpindi Cantonment representatives have voiced their support for the underground cabling project in Saddar Bazaar. This project aims to enhance the infrastructure and aesthetics of the area by burying cables underground. However, the traders have raised concerns about the proposed construction of a kilometer-long walking street from Bank Road to the Metrobus Station.

During a joint review meeting attended by representatives from various stakeholders, including the Cantonment Board, IESCO, and traders, the importance of promptly completing the civil work for the underground cabling project was emphasized. The traders have planned to hold a consultative meeting with trade bodies across the Cantonment to further discuss the walking street proposal.

Chaired by Additional Director General MLC Khursheed Ali Khan, the steering committee meeting discussed the beautification of Saddar Bazaar, underground cabling, and the walking street project. The ongoing civil and underground cabling works by IESCO were highlighted, with concerns raised about the quality and pace of the contractor's work. The contractor has been urged to adhere to the nine-month timeline for project completion.

Efforts are also underway to beautify all bazaars in Saddar, including standardizing shop signboards, painting shop fronts, enhancing footpaths, and improving sanitation. Despite these efforts, traders remain opposed to the proposed walking street, citing potential negative impacts on business activities. They are planning to convene a meeting with all business associations to determine the next steps.

The developments in Saddar Bazaar reflect a mix of support and concerns regarding infrastructure projects. While the underground cabling project has garnered approval for its potential benefits, the walking street proposal faces opposition from the business community. As discussions continue, stakeholders aim to find a balance between modernization and preserving the economic vitality of the area.
