Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif of Punjab recently chaired a meeting to evaluate the progress of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in the province. The focus of the meeting was on the establishment of an industrial estate following a plug and play model to attract more industries. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of addressing past issues and providing strong support to industries within these zones.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the slow pace of industrial growth in the province, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif took decisive action by ordering the replacement of heads and boards of underperforming industrial estates. She also announced plans for a thorough performance evaluation of these officials and their teams to ensure efficient operations and optimal utilization of the industrial estates.
The meeting was attended by key figures including Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Information & Culture Minister Azma Zahid Bukhari, and MPA Sania Ashiq. Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Finance Secretary Mujahid Sher Dil, Secretary Industry Ehsan Bhutta, and other relevant officials were also present to strategize on enhancing the functionality of SEZs in Punjab.
