Preparations finalized for crucial by-elections in Pakistan to fill vacant seats in various assemblies. Enhanced security measures in place with over 6.23 million ballot papers provided. Total of 174 candidates contesting in the elections.

Preparations have been finalized for the upcoming by-elections on 5 National and 16 provincial Assembly seats in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan. The elections are set to take place on Sunday with enhanced security measures in place to ensure a smooth voting process.

The by-elections are being held to fill seats that were vacated by candidates who won multiple seats in the previous general elections or where polling was postponed due to unfortunate incidents. Polling will be conducted from 8 am to 5 pm across various constituencies, including 5 National Assembly seats, 12 Punjab Assembly seats, 2 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly seats, and 2 Balochistan Assembly seats.

Notable figures such as Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have relinquished certain seats to retain others, leading to the need for these by-elections. The Election Commission of Pakistan has provided over 6.23 million ballot papers for the upcoming elections, with an estimated 2.55 million voters participating in the National Assembly constituencies and 3.61 million voters in the provincial assembly seats.

A total of 174 candidates are contesting in the by-elections, with Punjab having the highest voter count at approximately 4.04 million. The Election Commission has set up 892 polling stations, including 139 sensitive ones, to facilitate the voting process. The by-elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are also expected to see significant voter turnout, with a total of 1.47 million and 396,246 voters respectively.
