The Chief Traffic Officer has taken proactive steps to support traffic wardens during a severe heatwave by approving additional leave, reducing duty hours, and implementing measures to address health concerns. The Meteorological Office has issued a heatwave forecast for the country, highlighting contrasting weather conditions in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) has taken a commendable step by approving an additional monthly leave and decreasing the daily duty hours by one for traffic wardens working in the provincial capital during a severe heatwave. This decision comes as a response to the extreme temperatures reaching 45 degrees Celsius, which have been challenging for the wardens while managing traffic outdoors.

The CTO has recognized the dedication of the wardens and expressed appreciation for their hard work under such harsh conditions. Concerns regarding the declining health of many wardens due to the scorching heat have led to the implementation of various measures to ensure their well-being.

To address these concerns, the CTO has instructed the provision of umbrellas, cold drinks, and water at regular intervals. Additionally, the wardens are now permitted to take short breaks during their shifts and have been granted some flexibility in the dress code to cope with the extreme weather.

The Meteorological Office has issued a forecast indicating that most low-lying areas of the country will be affected by intense heatwaves. There is a possibility of dusty winds and thunderstorms in the afternoon, which could further exacerbate the challenging weather conditions.

Conversely, Gilgit-Baltistan is expected to experience partly cloudy weather with chances of scattered showers, strong winds, and thunderstorms. This forecast provides a contrasting outlook compared to the rest of the country, offering some relief from the extreme heat.

The initiatives taken by the CTO to support the traffic wardens during the heatwave demonstrate a proactive approach towards ensuring the well-being of essential workers. By providing additional leave, reducing duty hours, and implementing measures to mitigate the effects of extreme heat, the authorities are prioritizing the health and safety of those working in challenging conditions.
