Imdad Hussain Siddiqui urges proactive disaster management measures

In a recent address, Imdad Hussain Siddiqui, Director (Operations) of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh, called upon all District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) to implement thorough measures to lessen the impact of the upcoming 2024 flood and heavy rain season.

Siddiqui emphasized the need for proactive steps to protect lives and infrastructure. He highlighted the importance of all DDMAs in Sindh adopting robust mitigation strategies to minimize the consequences of floods and heavy rains, with a primary focus on ensuring the safety and well-being of communities.

The Director (Operations) stressed the significance of early preparedness and effective response mechanisms in dealing with the anticipated weather challenges. To strengthen disaster preparedness and response capabilities, PDMA, in collaboration with IOM and UNOCHA, has initiated the MSRNA Training program under the Information Management and Assessment Preparedness initiative.

This training aims to equip PDMA and DDMA personnel, along with local NGOs from various districts, with the essential skills to enhance disaster readiness and response. The workshop saw active participation from all thirty DDMAs and a strong presence of INGOs/National NGOs.

The call for comprehensive measures by PDMA Sindh underscores the critical need for proactive disaster management strategies to mitigate the impact of natural disasters. Through initiatives like the MSRNA Training program, efforts are being made to enhance preparedness and response capabilities, ensuring the safety and well-being of communities in the face of potential weather challenges.
