Lahore High Court Unveils Modernizing Reforms

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has recently unveiled a series of reforms aimed at modernizing public service delivery and enhancing judicial efficiency through IT-based initiatives. Chaired by Acting LHC Chief Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, these reforms are designed to improve the overall functioning of the judicial system and provide better services to lawyers, litigants, judges, and the public.

One of the key reforms introduced by the LHC is the implementation of QR-coded documents for easy access to judgments and orders, along with an online complaint system integrated into the LHC's mobile application. Additionally, an 'Adlia Sahulat Centre' will be established to provide a range of services to lawyers and litigants, including case filing, early hearing applications, and access to judicial records.

To enhance judicial efficiency, the Provincial Criminal Justice Coordination Committee will meet quarterly to ensure effective coordination among stakeholders. The integration of the Police Station Record Management System with other systems will streamline processes, including e-filing of petitions and digital comments from police.

Moreover, the reforms include welfare measures for judges, court staff, and lawyers, such as the implementation of a Human Resource Management System, health screenings, and educational support for children with special needs. Institutional improvements will focus on prioritizing Gender-Based Violence and Overseas Pakistanis cases, as well as enhancing training programs for judicial officers.

Additional initiatives encompass the establishment of Alternate Dispute Resolution centers, upgrading existing Case Management and Record Management Systems, ensuring security at court premises, and implementing energy conservation measures through solar technology. IT-based solutions, including Artificial Intelligence, will be leveraged to enhance case supervision and disposal.

The Lahore High Court's comprehensive reforms mark a significant step towards modernizing the judicial system in Pakistan. By prioritizing efficiency, accessibility, and welfare, these initiatives aim to create a more streamlined and effective legal framework for all stakeholders involved.
