Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has underscored the significance of enforcing the witness protection law in Sindh, aiming to ensure justice for all. The recent launch of the Sindh Prosecution Roadmap 2025-2030 marks a crucial milestone in addressing gaps within the criminal justice system, particularly in safeguarding the rights of marginalized communities.

The Chief Minister lauded the collaborative efforts between the Sindh Criminal Prosecution Services Department and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in crafting this comprehensive roadmap. He emphasized the urgency of updating the Criminal Procedure Code to incorporate modern technologies and investigative techniques.

CM Shah also recognized the legislative strides taken by the Sindh Assembly in passing laws related to prison reforms, witness protection, gender-based violence, and minority rights. However, he expressed concerns regarding the underutilization of the Witness Protection Act and urged for its effective implementation to ensure the safety of witnesses.

UNODC representative Dr. Jeremy Mislom commended the roadmap for bolstering the institutional capacity of Sindh's prosecution services and fostering transparency and accountability. The roadmap's focus on gender equality principles and its commitment to providing legal protection to vulnerable groups are crucial steps towards a more just society.

The roadmap's strategic objectives encompass recruitment, training, infrastructure enhancement, backlog reduction, victim support services, and witness protection. Additionally, it includes the establishment of a steering committee and a dedicated delivery unit to oversee and monitor the implementation progress, ensuring efficient execution of the outlined initiatives.

At a recent event, various speakers, including PPP MNA Dr. Nafeesa Shah and Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput, emphasized the importance of women's empowerment and advocated for gender-inclusive policies within government institutions.

The commitment shown by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and the collaborative efforts between governmental bodies and international organizations highlight a positive step towards a more just and equitable society in Sindh. By prioritizing witness protection, legal reforms, and gender equality, the province is moving closer to ensuring fair and transparent legal processes for all its residents.
