Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, leads the cleaning of storm water drains in Karachi to prepare for the monsoon season. The initiative focuses on clearing choking points in major drains, deploying staff for efficient drainage, and ensuring minimal disruptions during heavy rains.

Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has initiated the cleaning activities for storm water drains in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season. The Mayor has confirmed that the cleaning process is currently in progress and is expected to be completed before the onset of the monsoon. To oversee the operations, Mayor Wahab, accompanied by municipal officials, conducted inspections of various storm water drains across different areas of Karachi, including Manzoor Colony, Qayyumabad, Mauripur, Sakhi Hasan, Paposh Nagar, Pahar Ganj, and KDA Chowrangi.

The focus of the cleaning efforts is on addressing the identified choking points in Karachi's 46 major drains to ensure effective drainage during heavy rainfall. Simultaneously, work is being done to clear 500 smaller drains, particularly in suburban regions, to prevent waterlogging. Mayor Wahab emphasized the need for minimal disruption to citizens during the monsoon season and swift drainage of rainwater from main highways to maintain smooth traffic flow.

Preparedness for heavy rains includes the deployment of municipal staff in three shifts equipped with dewatering pumps, machinery, and strategically positioned vehicles for prompt response to drainage requirements. Mayor Karachi commended the proactive stance of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) in identifying and clearing choking points in readiness for the rainy season, urging KMC personnel to exhibit dedication and diligence as demonstrated in previous years.

Assuring continuous vigilance during the monsoon, Mayor Wahab highlighted the ongoing monitoring of drainage activities to ensure efficient water clearance. The directive includes the round-the-clock operation of municipal service offices and workshops to promptly address any emergency situations that may arise. The overarching goal remains on proactive measures to mitigate the impact of heavy rainfall and sustain essential services for the residents of Karachi.
