Pakistan, led by Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions, Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan, Engr. Minister Muqam recently highlighted the importance of the international community recognizing this significant burden.

In a meeting with a delegation headed by Ms. Mio Sato, Chief of Mission for the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Pakistan, Minister Muqam commended the IOM for its assistance to Afghan citizens and the local community. The discussion also involved Chief Commissioner for Afghan Refugees Mohammad Abbas Khan and other officials.

Minister Muqam emphasized the need for increased support in healthcare, education, and infrastructure development. He expressed his desire for Afghan refugees to return home with dignity, ensuring no forced expulsions or mistreatment. The Minister stressed the importance of monitoring their activities through proper screening.

Recognizing the positive impact of Afghan refugees on business, education, and social interactions in Pakistan, Minister Muqam acknowledged the mutual benefits of their presence. He announced his upcoming visit to Geneva in June to meet with the Director-General of IOM, following an invitation from the UNHCR High Commissioner.
