The Punjab Minister for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education, Khawaja Salman Rafique, recently chaired a crucial meeting at the Institute of Public Health (IPH) in Lahore to address the growing concerns surrounding the Dengue virus. The meeting brought together key health officials, experts from the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Dengue Experts Advisory Group (DEAG) to strategize on combating the spread of the virus.

Dr. Zarfishan Tahir provided an update on the current dengue situation in the province, highlighting the measures being implemented to control the virus. Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of CEO Lahore Dr. Faisal Malik and urged him to intensify dengue surveillance efforts.

The minister emphasized the critical need for enhanced vigilance and collaboration among all departments to prevent dengue outbreaks. He stressed the importance of implementing comprehensive strategies well in advance of the dengue season, focusing on training for field staff and urgent actions to reduce larvae proliferation.

Entomologist Prof. Waseem Akram emphasized the role of parental supervision in safeguarding children from dengue and recommended continuous training for entomology master trainers. He highlighted the necessity of coordinated efforts between the health department, Parks and Horticultural Authority, and Water and Sanitation Agency to effectively combat the disease.

The meeting led by Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique underscored the urgency of proactive measures to control the spread of dengue in Punjab. With a focus on collaboration, training, and coordinated efforts, the stakeholders are committed to implementing strategies that will safeguard public health and prevent dengue outbreaks in the region.
