NGO Sahil Reports Alarming Child Abuse Statistics

In a heart-wrenching discovery, a six-year-old girl, her two-year-old brother, and their 25-year-old mother were found dead in Karachi's Mauripur area. The children had gone missing for two days before their bodies were found in a drain. The police surgeon's examination revealed that the siblings had been sexually assaulted before being strangled, with the young girl enduring particularly brutal treatment. There are suspicions that the mother may have also faced sexual abuse, pending confirmation from chemical reports.

This devastating case sheds light on the pervasive violence, especially against children, that continues to afflict our society. Shockingly, such incidents are not isolated, with many similar cases going unreported. According to Sahil, an NGO dedicated to child welfare, an average of 11 children fall victim to abuse daily in Pakistan.

The frequency of these heinous crimes should have spurred prompt and resolute action from the authorities. However, the response from Pakistani officials has been lacking.
