In a recent report presented to the National Assembly, the interior ministry of Pakistan disclosed alarming statistics regarding terrorism incidents in the country during the year 2023. The report highlighted that a total of 1,514 terrorism incidents took place, resulting in significant casualties. Security personnel bore the brunt of these attacks, with 572 personnel losing their lives and 1,292 sustaining injuries. Moreover, 358 civilians tragically lost their lives, and 700 were wounded in these acts of terrorism.

The report specifically pointed out the deteriorating law and order situation in different regions of Pakistan. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) witnessed the highest number of terror attacks, with 858 incidents leading to the deaths of 402 security personnel and 178 civilians. Balochistan reported 626 terror attacks, resulting in the martyrdom of 148 security personnel and injuries to 198. Sindh, Punjab, and Gilgit-Baltistan also faced terrorism-related casualties during the year.

Minister for Petroleum, Musadik Malik, announced a ban on new gas connections to address the declining gas reserves in the country. He proposed blending domestic gas with imported LNG to ensure a continuous gas supply. Additionally, a significant project worth 4.5 billion rupees was launched to enhance gas supply in specific areas of Karachi, prioritizing the provision of gas to the middle and lower-income segments.

Minister for Finance, Muhammad Aurangzeb, clarified the government's stance on tax and duty exemptions for erstwhile FATA and PATA regions, stating that these exemptions would expire soon.
