The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics organizes workshops for the 7th Agricultural Census 2024, emphasizing the importance of accurate data for shaping agricultural policies and programs in Pakistan.

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) recently organized the second awareness workshop for the upcoming 7th Agricultural Census 2024. This census will utilize an Integrated Digital Count approach to assist in evidence-based planning and policy development for the agriculture and livestock sectors in Pakistan. The workshops, held at Sindh University of Agriculture TandoJam, Hyderabad, and the University of Agriculture, Peshawar, aimed to engage various stakeholders including agricultural scientists, researchers, policymakers, and the general public in preparation for the Agricultural Census.

The significance of the agricultural sector in Pakistan was underscored by the PBS, as it contributes 24% to the GDP and employs 38% of the country's labor force. The 7th Agricultural Census will focus on data collection related to crops, livestock, and agricultural machinery to enable informed decision-making. Field operations are scheduled to commence in August 2024, covering all regions across the country with the aid of IT tools and techniques.

Key figures such as Muhammad Javed Marwat, Secretary Agriculture Khyber Pakhthunkhwa, and Professor Dr. Jehan Bakht, Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Peshawar, emphasized the importance of accurate data for shaping agricultural policies and programs during the workshops. Secretary Marwat commended the efforts of PBS and stakeholders in driving this national initiative forward, highlighting the critical role of timely statistics in the agricultural sector for effective policy formulation and strategic investments.

The 7th Agricultural Census 2024 represents a significant step towards enhancing agricultural development in Pakistan through data-driven decision-making. By ensuring accurate and comprehensive data collection, this initiative aims to pave the way for improved policies and investments in the agriculture and livestock sectors, ultimately benefiting the country's economy and workforce.
