The Pir Abdul Qadir Shah Jilani Institute in Gambat, Sindh, celebrates completing 1,000 liver transplants, offering free services and achieving remarkable success rates and medical milestones.

The Pir Abdul Qadir Shah Jilani Institute of Medical Sciences in Gambat, Sindh, has reached a remarkable milestone by completing 1,000 liver transplants. This achievement signifies a significant advancement in complex medical procedures at a public health facility in Pakistan.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah recently commended the institute's success during an online event honoring this milestone. Notably, out of the 1,000 liver transplants performed, 460 patients hailed from Sindh, 347 from Punjab, 141 from Balochistan, 36 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, nine from Kashmir, and four from Afghanistan. It is worth mentioning that all services provided by the Gambat institute are offered free of charge to patients.

Established in 2016, the Liver Transplant Department at the institute has made significant progress over the years. Initially supported by international surgeons, the institute now boasts a skilled in-house team led by Dr. Abdul Wahab Dogar. The success rate of liver transplants at the institute stands at an impressive 90%, comparable to rates in developed countries.

Dr. Rahim Bux Bhatti, instrumental in advancing the institute's medical facilities, highlighted that apart from liver transplants, the hospital also offers treatment for various diseases. The institute has achieved several milestones in liver transplants, including the highest number of living donor liver transplants in Pakistan in a year, the first combined kidney and living donor liver transplant in the country, and the first ABO-incompatible liver transplant in Pakistan.

Equipped with cutting-edge technology and a dedicated team, the Pir Abdul Qadir Shah Jilani Institute of Medical Sciences in Gambat has emerged as a premier healthcare institution in Asia. It currently holds the distinction of being the largest liver transplant program in Pakistan and aspires to become the largest globally.
