PM Shehbaz Sharif Leads Energy Sector Reform Talks

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif recently met with a delegation of foreign energy experts to discuss the ongoing efforts to reform Pakistan's energy sector. The Prime Minister highlighted the challenges faced by the industry, including circular debt, line losses, and electricity theft, underscoring the sector's critical role in driving economic growth.

During the meeting, PM Sharif reiterated the government's commitment to addressing these challenges by reducing circular debt, improving bill collection efficiency, and advancing the privatization and outsourcing of power distribution companies. He also expressed interest in leveraging Georgian expertise to achieve these goals and promoting alternative energy sources like solar power to reduce reliance on expensive energy options.

To drive innovation and efficiency in the energy sector, the government plans to encourage public-private partnerships. The Prime Minister instructed Federal ministers to work closely with the delegation to promptly implement fundamental reforms in the energy sector. Key officials from ministries such as Planning and Development, Finance, Petroleum, and Power were also present at the meeting to collaborate on the reform agenda.
