Punjab witnesses a surge in road accidents with 1,207 incidents in 24 hours, emphasizing the need for enhanced safety measures and strict traffic rule enforcement.

Over the past 24 hours, Punjab has witnessed a concerning rise in road accidents, with a total of 1,207 incidents reported. These accidents have resulted in six tragic fatalities and left 1,298 individuals injured. Among the injured, 612 people with severe injuries were rushed to hospitals, while 686 received immediate medical attention from rescue teams at the accident sites.

An analysis of the incidents has revealed that the victims belonged to various categories, including 742 drivers, 53 underage drivers, 145 pedestrians, and 417 passengers. The city of Lahore reported the highest number of accidents, with 263 cases affecting 276 individuals. Following Lahore, Faisalabad and Gujranwala also experienced significant numbers of accidents, with 107 cases and 68 cases respectively.

The vehicles involved in these accidents were predominantly motorbikes, accounting for 1,106 incidents. Additionally, there were 61 auto-rickshaws, 105 motorcars, 19 vans, five passenger buses, 35 trucks, and 95 other types of vehicles and slow-moving carts.

The recent surge in road accidents in Punjab highlights the urgent need for enhanced safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.
