Sindh Authorities Urged to Address LPG Safety Concerns

The recent spate of LPG cylinder explosions in various cities across Sindh has brought about a devastating toll on the community. Over the course of just 11 days, a total of 27 individuals, including 19 children, have tragically lost their lives, while around 75 others have suffered injuries. The most recent incident unfolded at a fuel station in Larkana, resulting in five individuals being injured due to a fire sparked by an exploding LPG cylinder.

Despite a prior incident in Hyderabad, the provincial authorities have yet to take prompt action to address the safety issues associated with LPG cylinders. The majority of these explosions have taken place in low-income neighborhoods, highlighting a worrying lack of focus on ensuring the safety of vulnerable populations.

The proliferation of numerous unauthorized LPG cylinder shops in densely populated areas poses a significant threat to public safety. These establishments operate without the necessary licenses, safety precautions, or oversight, rendering them potential hazards waiting to unfold. The informal nature of these businesses enables them to evade regulatory scrutiny, sidestep safety standards, and function without essential inspections.
