A surge in road traffic accidents in Punjab, particularly impacting Lahore, highlights the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures and stricter traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.

Over the last 24 hours, Punjab has experienced a concerning surge in road traffic accidents, with a total of 1,173 crashes. These incidents have resulted in the tragic loss of 15 lives and injuries to 1,237 individuals. Among the injured, 547 are in critical condition and have been swiftly taken to hospitals for urgent medical care, while 690 have received immediate treatment at the accident sites from rescue medical teams.

An in-depth analysis of the accidents has revealed that the victims encompass various categories, including 692 drivers, 51 underage drivers, 133 pedestrians, and 427 passengers. The city most impacted by these unfortunate events is Lahore, with 228 reported crashes affecting 244 individuals. Following closely behind are Gujranwala, with 76 accidents and 79 victims, and Faisalabad, with 75 accidents and 76 victims.

Further examination of the data sheds light on the types of vehicles involved in these incidents. The statistics show that motorbikes were the most common, with 1,015 being part of the accidents. Additionally, there were 66 auto-rickshaws, 163 motorcars, 34 vans, eight passenger buses, 26 trucks, and 89 other vehicles and slow-moving carts involved in the unfortunate events.
