Recent surge in road traffic crashes in Punjab, with 12 fatalities and 1324 injuries, underscores the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to protect all road users.

Over the past 24 hours, Punjab has witnessed a concerning rise in road traffic crashes, resulting in a total of 12 fatalities and 1324 injuries across all 37 districts. The incidents have put a significant strain on the healthcare system, with 600 individuals sustaining serious injuries requiring hospitalization, while 724 others with minor injuries were treated on-site by Rescue Medical Teams.

An analysis of the data revealed that drivers, underage drivers, pedestrians, and passengers were among the most affected groups. Lahore, the provincial capital, reported the highest number of road traffic crashes, with 226 incidents affecting 246 individuals. Multan followed with 82 crashes and 90 victims, while Faisalabad recorded 76 crashes and 90 victims.

The vehicles involved in these accidents included 1109 motorbikes, 70 auto-rickshaws, 107 motorcars, 24 vans, 8 passenger buses, 22 trucks, and 88 other types of vehicles and slow-moving carts.

The alarming statistics highlight the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life and injuries on Punjab's roads. Authorities must prioritize initiatives aimed at promoting responsible driving behavior and ensuring the safety of all road users.
