The Punjab government is conducting an audit of health authorities to improve vaccination coverage, ensure accountability, and enhance public trust in healthcare services.

In response to a notable decrease in vaccination rates from over 90% in 2017 to 68% in 2023, the Punjab government has announced a thorough evaluation of health authorities across all districts. This initiative aims to improve vaccination coverage and ensure accountability in healthcare services.

The Health Department has directed the Secretary of Health Punjab to kickstart the audit process. Districts have been asked to provide a five-year record of vaccination coverage for review. The primary focus will be on identifying and suspending officers in districts with the lowest performance.

Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir has emphasized the government's commitment to accountability. He has stated that a comprehensive audit will be conducted to hold employees responsible for their performance. This step is crucial for enhancing the effectiveness of health programs and regaining public trust.

Additionally, the Health Department has requested lists of staff members who have not fulfilled their duties over the past five years. This information will aid in taking further actions against those responsible for the decline in vaccination rates.

The Punjab government's decision to evaluate health authorities demonstrates a proactive approach towards improving healthcare services and vaccination coverage. By ensuring accountability and taking necessary actions, the government aims to enhance the efficiency of health programs and rebuild public trust in the healthcare system.
