The Sindh Human Rights Commission conducted a training workshop for Sindh Prisons officials, focusing on human rights principles, legal frameworks, and the importance of dignity and respect for inmates.

The Sindh Human Rights Commission recently organized a comprehensive two-day training workshop in Hyderabad aimed at enhancing the understanding of human rights principles and legal frameworks among Sindh Prisons officials. The workshop focused on promoting a just legal system that prioritizes human dignity, rehabilitation, and the reformation of prisoners.

During the workshop, participants delved into various topics, including national and international human rights principles, the Sindh Protection of Human Rights Act of 2011, and the UN Minimum Standards on Treatment of Prisoners. Special attention was given to the rights of women and children in prisons, emphasizing the crucial need for dignity and respect for all inmates.

Legal adviser Barrister Rida Tahir shed light on the specific rights of vulnerable groups within prisons, such as pregnant women and young mothers, while also discussing the UN Standard Minimum Rules for the Administration of Juvenile Justice. Additionally, Principal SSP Ashfaq Kalwar and Deputy Commissioner of Hyderabad Tariq Hussain Qureshi highlighted the importance of such training workshops for the professional development of prison personnel and the significance of treating inmates with dignity and respect.

The workshop successfully equipped Sindh Prisons officials with the necessary knowledge and skills to uphold human rights standards within correctional facilities, ultimately contributing to the rehabilitation and reformation of prisoners.
