In Sheikhupura, the Deputy Commissioner has launched a significant crackdown to tackle the issue of shopkeepers and vendors not adhering to official price rates for essential commodities like bread, roti, meat, and vegetables. This initiative comes in response to directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Waqar Ali Khan, with support from assistant commissioners and price control magistrates who are actively inspecting establishments across the district.

So far, more than 18,000 inspections have been carried out, resulting in fines totaling over Rs 35 lakh imposed on 1,706 shopkeepers. Furthermore, thirty shopkeepers have been arrested, and FIRs have been lodged against them for charging excessive prices for their products.

To combat price exploitation, the authorities have fixed the prices of 120gm naan bread at Rs 20 and 100gm roti at Rs 14. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Waqar Ali Khan has issued a strict warning that severe actions will be taken against any individuals found violating the official price regulations, especially concerning meat and bread. The primary aim of this crackdown is to protect citizens from being taken advantage of by dishonest shopkeepers and vendors who inflate prices of essential goods.

The crackdown on price violations in Sheikhupura is a crucial step towards ensuring fair pricing and protecting consumers from exploitation. By enforcing strict measures and setting clear price guidelines, the authorities are working to create a more transparent and equitable marketplace for all residents. It is essential for everyone to support these efforts and report any instances of price gouging to promote a fair and just economic environment in the region.
