An investigation in Karachi uncovers targeted killings camouflaged as street crimes, prompting law enforcement efforts to combat criminal activities and enhance security in the city.

An investigation into a series of murders during resistance to robbery in Karachi has revealed a disturbing trend of targeted killings disguised as street crimes. Out of 65 murders examined, 18 were identified as targeted killings, raising concerns among authorities in the city. The Inspector General (IG) of Sindh police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, has been tasked with investigating these cases, shedding light on a deliberate effort to disrupt peace under the guise of random criminal activities.

Interior Minister of Sindh, Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar, disclosed that 18 individuals fell victim to targeted attacks masked as street crimes in Karachi. This revelation underscores the need for heightened vigilance and swift action to address this emerging threat. Despite these incidents, Karachi's overall crime rate remains lower compared to other regions like Punjab.

Law enforcement agencies in Karachi have made significant strides in combating street crime and targeted killings. Recent operations have led to the arrest of criminal gangs, contributing to improved security in the city. The Garden area police recently apprehended a ringleader, Faisal, who allegedly led a gang of 30 robbers involved in various criminal activities.

SSP city, Arif Aziz, revealed that Faisal's gang specialized in robbery and pickpocketing, with a sophisticated operation involving the alteration of IMEI numbers on stolen mobile phones. These phones were then sold to an Afghan dealer, who smuggled them to Balochistan and Afghanistan. The gang's activities have resulted in numerous robberies and the sale of a large number of mobile phones to the dealer. Another accomplice, Arsalan, has also been captured by the police, further dismantling the criminal network.

The uncovering of targeted killings disguised as street crimes in Karachi highlights the need for continued vigilance and collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and the community. By addressing both street crimes and targeted attacks, authorities aim to restore and maintain peace in the city. The recent arrests of criminal elements demonstrate progress in enhancing security and safeguarding the well-being of Karachi's residents.
