Severe flooding in Guangdong province due to heavy rain leads to casualties, evacuations, and ongoing emergency response amidst climate change challenges.

Heavy rain has caused severe flooding in Guangdong province, with rivers swelling and fears of historic flooding levels. Three deaths have been reported in Zhaoqing City, where individuals were trapped and found dead due to the rainfall. Eleven people are still missing as search and rescue operations continue in the area.

More than 53,000 people have been relocated in Guangdong, with over 45,000 evacuated from Qingyuan city along the Bei River. The region is bracing for more heavy rain, with thunderstorms and strong winds expected in coastal waters.

Neighboring provinces like Fujian, Guizhou, and Guangxi are also preparing for heavy rainfall. The National Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for rainstorms across the country, with Guangdong province being particularly vulnerable due to its dense population and manufacturing activities.

In Jiangwan town, landslides caused by heavy rain have left six people injured and others trapped. The impact of climate change, exacerbated by human-induced greenhouse gas emissions, is making extreme weather events more frequent and intense.

As floods continue to threaten the region, authorities are on high alert for further emergencies. The situation remains critical as the province grapples with the aftermath of the heavy rainfall and prepares for ongoing challenges posed by the extreme weather conditions.
