Karachi residents are warned of soaring temperatures as PMD forecasts a prolonged heatwave, impacting daily life.

Karachi residents are urged to gear up for scorching temperatures as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted a significant rise in the mercury levels starting from tomorrow. The recent scorching heatwave in Sindh, with Mohenjo Daro recording a blistering 52.2 °C, has set the stage for what could be a sweltering period ahead.

The PMD's predictions indicate that Karachi is likely to witness temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius, with heatwave conditions anticipated to prevail across various districts until June 1. The Met Office has specifically highlighted Karachi, Thatta, Badin, and Sujawal as areas where daytime temperatures could reach 40-42°C, while other districts may experience even higher temperatures ranging from 42-44°C.

Moreover, several regions in Sindh, including Dadu, Larkana, and Sukkur, are currently facing temperatures that are 6-8°C higher than normal. Similarly, Hyderabad and Mirpur Khas are expected to be 5-7°C hotter than their usual temperatures during this period.

The heatwave is anticipated to persist well into the beginning of June, with experts warning that Karachi might encounter its most scorching week of the year. To cope with the extreme heat, individuals are advised to remain indoors, keep themselves well-hydrated, and take precautions to prevent heatstroke. Furthermore, the city's power supply could be strained, potentially leading to extended periods of load shedding in certain areas.

Pakistan's increasing vulnerability to extreme weather events, largely attributed to climate change, is evident in the ongoing heatwave gripping Karachi. The effects of this prolonged heatwave are expected to impact daily life in the city for the foreseeable future.
